We had never had a formal appraisal system or agreed process, everyone always did things in their own way. Having grown rapidly we realised that we were of a size that meant by not putting more structured support in place, we weren’t effectively supporting our talent’s development and progress in the company.
As a recruitment company our business is naturally very client-focused, which meant that the one-to-ones that were happening were often more transactional in nature, focusing on numbers, productivity and output.
